Cloud Computing with Windows Azure – Cory Fowler Interview (Anglais seulement)
In this interview, we chat with Cory Fowler, one of the developers from Innosphere.ca. Cory was a speaker at Confoo, and his presentations focused on Windows Azure and how developers can use it for their cloud computing projects. Amongst other things, Cory shared with us what he sees as some of the key advantages that Windows Azure has over Google App Engine and Amazon’s hardware — namely that Windows Azure offers developers more flexibility because it supports more languages.
Working with Multiple PHP Frameworks – Stefan Koopmanschap Interview (Anglais seulement)
This is an interview with Stefan Koopmanschap, an advanced PHP developer from the Netherlands. We caught up with Stefan at Confoo where he was giving two presentations: one on the myths surrounding the Zend framework, and another on how to use the Symfony and Zend framework together. Stefan discussed with us the advantages of using multiple PHP frameworks, as well as what he thinks about Microsoft’s recent efforts to engage the open-source community and support open-source languages, such as PHP.
Enterprise Level PHP – Paul Reinheimer Interview (Anglais seulement)
This is an interview with Paul Reinheimer, the Lead Developer at Mansef. We caught up with Paul at Confoo, where he had just given a presentation on PHP development at the enterprise level — i.e. building sites and apps that can handle some serious traffic. Paul discussed what developers should know when building apps at this level, as well as what he thought about Microsoft’s recent efforts to support the open-source community.
Sponsor Spotlight: Telerik (Anglais seulement)
Make Web Not War would like to welcome Telerik as the first official Got Me Valued sponsor for the conference in May! They are the leading vendor of ASP.NET AJAX, ASP.NET MVC, Silverlight, WinForms and WPF controls and components, as well as .NET Reporting, .NET ORM , .NET CMS, TFS, Code Analysis and Web Application Testing Tools.
They’ve done a great job with connecting with the community through their extensive online efforts and we had a chance to ask a few questions to their Worldwide Developer Audience Marketing Manager, Sasha Krsmanovic about their involvement with Make Web Not War this year.
Why did Telerik decide to sponsor Make Web Not War 2010?
At Telerik, we sponsor just about every effort by developers to learn from each other. We strongly believe strong developer community is good for everyone – both in and outside of our industry.. We sponsor developer user groups on 7 continents through our Developer Community Support program headed by Emily Parker.
What do you hope Make Web Not War will achieve?
Web is the focal point of efforts by many vendor companies. Users aren’t interested which technology is used to develop a web app. They want visually appealing, secure and responsive web application. We hope that this event will help bring the “opposing camps” together in realizing user needs and how different technologies can work better together.
What is Telerik looking forward to at the event?
We look forward to event attendees discovering Telerik, our controls, and our efforts in the MVC space with Telerik extensions for ASP.NET MVC. We certainly hope attendees will come by our twitter or Facebook fan page and let us know how we can improve.
We look forward to having the Telerik team at the event!

Everybody’s Confoo Fighting (Anglais seulement)
Well, not exactly. In a collaborative conjunction of developer minds, this week from March 10th to 12th features the first edition of the Confoo Conference held in partnership with PHP Québec, Montréal-Python, Montréal on Rails, W3Qc and OWASP Montréal. So whether you develop in Java, .NET, PHP, Python and Ruby – there is something for everyone. What’s fascinating in the world of recent development events is the momentum towards the shift in hybrid environments that celebrate different platforms, bringing together a world of developers to hone in on ways to develop their skills versus remaining completely platform religious. Because hey, being the best developer is about that – being the best developer is to able to deliver the best website… ever. So here we are, we have a booth at the event, we love the energy, the positive vibe and the synergies across wanting to just learn more about the web! If you’re at the event this week, come check us out, sign up for the WebsiteSpark competition to win an HD Vid Camera or just to steal some super cool buttons like these:
and sit on a super cool stool like this…
Heck, if you can’t make it out – tweet us at @webnotwar (#webnotwar) or email us at cdnsol@microsoft.com and we might even be nice enough to send a few buttons to you exclusively. Remember, let’s make web not war. ^al
