Q: Please tell us a little about yourself.

A: QuiboWeb is a small team (~12 people) working mainly with Open Source platforms like Drupal and WordPress. We are located on the south shore of Montreal (Longueuil). We work on Linux (Ubuntu), we use Apache. We don’t know anything about Microsoft stuff  like IIS and we usually don’t bid on ASP/.NET projects since we are not able to deliver them. We use Google all the time and Firefox as our Web browser! We do have some Windows workstations mainly because of Photoshop and for website testing on IE6 up to IE9, the same reason why we have a Mac!

Q: Why did you decide to participate in this coding competition in particular?

A:  As the president of W3Quebec, I know how hard Microsoft is working to bring their technologies and the open source community together to work on common projects. The word interoperability is often used. As the big boss of QuiboWeb, I decided to challenge 5 members of my IT team : our Drupal Master (Yannick cck Carriere), our O.O PHP Master and project manager (Franck ze french guy Methia), our WordPress Guru (Edouard wp_ Duplessis), our System Administrator (Guillaume .bash Legault) and the new guy that just joined the team at the beginnning of May (Mohammed let’s do it Ezzahr). Each of them will have a small part of the project to do since we are a bit late to participate to the competition. Our System Administrator will have to learn Windows Azure in order to deploy our application on time! The rest of the crew will work on different API and languages to deliver a very “2.0″ project!

Q: What do you hope to gain from your participation?

A: It is mainly a team bonding activity. Since 2002, our team tried to launch a lot of “personal” projects. Because of our regular work for our customers, these projects were always stopped. Being in a competition with a deadline and a cash prize at the end is the perfect setup to code our art out and deliver something great for the fun of doing it, and learn new things at the same time!

Q: What prompted you to pick this specific project?

A: Treat4.me is a project that we were talking about 6 months ago but nothing was done. The basis of this project can be very straightforward (wishlist system) and then, it is easy to add cool features and deliver an API to let other developers do cool stuff with it.

Q: What kinds of technologies will you be using?  Are you using Azure or IIS?

A: We will be using Azure, WordPress, Facebook connect, and Bookmarklet and for sure, as well as PHP for all the stuff we will need to add over the WordPress platform.

Q: If you win, how will you spend the cash money?

A: That’s a good question… Each member of the team will be able to propose something and vote for the best idea and we hope it is going to lead to a new team bonding activity!

Q: Anything else you want to say?

A: I would like to thank Microsoft for what they are doing with the Make Web Not War events. I think it is a great opportunity for people like us to learn “softly” how to use some of the Microsoft technologies! Q: Please tell us a little about yourself.
