PLAY IN PEEL APP INCREASES YOUTH PARTICIPATION
Play in Peel App Increases Youth Participation in Local Recreation Activities
Back in October 2013, the Peel Children and Youth Initiative in partnership with Web Nodes and Microsoft released the beta version of the Play in Peel app (see original story). Thanks to the feedback from children and youth in Peel region, we are proud to remove the “beta” tag to officially launch PlayInPeel.org with additional partners including the Cities of Brampton and Mississauga, Brampton Arts Council, Mississauga Arts Counciland YMCA.
The app was truly a community effort to increase the participation of recreational activities for children and youth in Peel region. The youth no longer want to continue to use paper guide books to find new and interesting programs, and we are happy they now have a better option in the cloud.
Play in Peel was developed by Web Nodes, a software development company in Peel using open source technologies such as jQuery, Knockout, and MongoDB on the Microsoft Windows Azure cloud platform.
We are very excited to continue to improve the Play In Peel app with citizens in Peel region and will continue to find new partners to include even more activities for the youth.
Upcoming features include building an API for developers to retrieve the datasets to fuel even more Open Data apps!
We hope you enjoy Play in Peel.
