In some ways working on a software project for a nonprofit is just like any other software project. You need to listen to the users first and foremost, and let the software be driven by their needs. Your system needs to be designed well, user-friendly and well tested.
In other ways, nonprofit projects are different because more emphasis on certain elements is needed.
